Troy Aikman confirmed to the Dallas Morning News that he and his wife Rhonda have separated and will divorce. The couple have been married for ten years and have two children. Rhonda Aikman also has a daughter from a previous relationship. The couple did not announce a reason for the split.
Aikman, a legendaryĀ quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, won three Super Bowl championships with the franchise and led the team to numerous other NFC Division titles during his career from 1989 to 2001. Before the couple married in 2000, Aikman was known as a sought-after bachelor, dating Hollywood starlets like Sandra Bullock and Janine Turner. Rhonda Aikman was a publicist when they met.
Since retiring from the NFL, Aikman has started another lucrative career as a sports analyst for Fox News. He also hosts a weekly Dallas sports radio show. He will be the lead analyst for Super Bowl XLV, hosted in Dallas next weekend, and may have plans to return to the NFL, this time in a front-office role.
It’s unclear when the couple separated – some speculate it actually occurred last November when Rhonda bought her own home in a Dallas neighborhood. With two daughters under ten, the soon-to-be ex-spouses presumably are planning to remain in the Dallas area to share custody of their children.
The reticent sports celebrity couple have asked for privacy and the terms of their marital dissolution have not been disclosed to the media.
